Pavan A Gupte

Pavan has spent 20+ years building financial services businesses in India, London and Singapore. He has a background in principal investing, corporate banking and infrastructure/project financing focussed on Global Emerging Markets, Europe and India.

He has been an Investment, Management and Valuation Committee Member at global firms since 2001. His functional experience covers management, business development, corporate development, strategy development, alignment of interests of management teams with principal investors, investment management and portfolio management.

In 2014, he set up Bombay Central, an investment firm advising and guiding global institutional clients making investments in the private debt, infrastructure & venture capital space in India. He has high conviction in the disruptive nature of start-ups today, especially in the consumer services, cyber security and (broadly) technology areas and therefore likes to stay on top of this paradigm shift through personal investments.

From 2011 till 2013, Pavan was based out of Singapore as the Chief Strategy Officer at CVCI Private Equity, a global emerging markets team of 75 people across 7 global offices managing a $4.3+ bln fund. From 2003 till 2011, he was based in London as the Asia Head for Gartmore/Hermes Private Equity (7x growth in the Assets under Management to $7+ bln). In the late 1990s, he was based in Mumbai and helped build a Belgian bank – KBC Bank – in India (c.10x growth in the loan portfolio to $400 mln over 3.5 years).

Pavan has completed his B.Com and MBA from the Mumbai University. He has attended and spoken at several Private Equity & Alternative Asset Management forums globally since 2005. He has been on the Advisory Boards of several funds focussed on Europe and Asia during 2003 till 2011. He has passed several regulatory tests to qualify for fiduciary management of institutional capital.
